Kohli Slams Bowlers Over Poor Show - The New Indian Express

BENGALURU: Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper and Man of the Match David Warner showered praise on his bowlers for his team’s comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday night. But his Royal Challengers Bangalore counterpart Virat Kohli was extremely critical of his own bowlers.

Trent Boult (3 for 36), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2 for 30) and Ravi Bopara (2 for 31) were the wreckers-in-chief with the ball for the Sunrisers. Along with Praveen Kumar, Karn Sharma and Ashish Reddy — all of whom chipped in with one wicket each — they did well to flatten the batting might of Chris Gayle and company.

RCB made 166, which Hyderabad chased down losing just two wickets. Warner (57), Shikhar Dhawan (50 not out) and local lad K L Rahul (44 not out) breezed past the total with Rahul hammering Varun Aaron for a six to hoist the winning runs.

Warner, who also took a brilliant catch, had a good word for the team’s fielding. “What a performance by the bowlers there! The bowlers did a fantastic job to bring us back. The spell from Boult and Bhuvi was special. We pride ourselves on fielding and that’s 50 per cent of the game,” the delighted Southpaw said.

“Credit to the bowlers, they gave us a nice total to chase and we knew that anything below 200 can be chased here. Dhawan was also very good,” Warner beamed.

Virat Kohli admitted that RCB performed below par in batting, bowling and fielding, but he was specially critical of the bowling. “We were just not good enough with the ball. We were 15-20 runs short. I also didn’t stay till the end and AB was going great, but he too got out in the end. We gave a lot of freebies early on. We need to figure out and review our performance. The bowlers should know that they were off their game and weren’t good,” he emphasised.

“With the bat, we got close to 170. Maybe, it was a 180-185 wicket, but we definitely need to improve our bowling. Mitchell Starc should be coming to India soon.”
