HYDERABAD:He is the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 800 victims, but Muttiah Muralitharan has always been in the eye of controversy, with people like Bishen Bedi doubting the bowling action of the Sri Lankan. But the former off-spinner said the ICC had a strict check with 15 degrees.
“It has always been there, it’s a protocol. Any bowler reported by the umpire has to go for the test. If they’re not under 15 degrees, their action has to be rectified.
Unfortunately, some bowlers go over 15 degree sometimes,” said the 42-year-old, who is the bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season.
Talking about his new role, Muralitharn said it would be a challenge. “As a player, you can perform — it’s all in your hands. But as a coach, all your hard work will be at the hands of the players — you have to wait for the players to deliver.” He added leg-spinner Karn Sharma and Jammu & Kashmir all-rounder Perveez Rasool were good bowlers.
