Delhi Daredevils pray for elusive victory in IPL 8 - Times of India

PUNE: In a 'North' derby to be played in the 'West', both hosts Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils will hope to win crucial points. More so Delhi, who will try to find the answer to the key question: Can they end their dismal run of 11 consecutive defeats that started last season?

In what is an 'away' game for them, Delhi would hope that the trend of the Gahunje stadium favouring the visitors - remember erstwhile hosts Pune Warriors' dismal show here - will help them finally clinch that elusive win. Giving comfort to them would be the fact that Punjab lost their first match against Rajasthan Royals last week.

Delhi could do well to bring back medium-pacer Domnic Muthuswami and retain Kedar Jadhav in the playing XI. For, both are from Maharashtra and well versed with the nature of pitch and conditions here.

Delhi have suffered two narrow defeats this season: first by one run to Chennai and then to Rajasthan despite scoring 184 batting first. It was baffling that Albie Morkel, nearly-a-hero of the first match with the bat, did not play their second game.

Last season's finalists Kings XI lost in Pune to Rajasthan and then beat hosts Mumbai.

Despite the presence of star owner Preity Zinta, the less celebrated bowling duos from either side could be at the forefront in Wednesday night's match.

Delhi have two leg-spinners, Amit Mishra and Imran Tahir, in the ranks while Punjab have inexperienced pace duo of Sandeep Sharma (Punjab) and Anureet Singh (Railways).

The leggies had taken six of the seven wickets between them against Rajasthan and they are expected to play a big role on a pitch which has played low and slow in the past.

Kings XI have a formidable batting lineup boasting of Murali Vijay, Virender Sehwag, Glenn Maxwell and captain George Bailey.

But their bowling lacks big names, except Mitchell Johnson. If Sandeep and Anupreet manage to strike early , Zinta's dimples will catch some attention and Delhi's worry lines will become more prominent.
