Like AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell looks like he can do almost anything on the cricket field. Although we haven't seen him keep stumps, he sure knows how to come up with mind-blowing strokes. He thrilled fans during the World Cup and he is eager to take IPL by storm. Hopefully he'll be able to repeat his exploits from last year. Here is a collection of some of his unorthodox shots.
1. Look-away cut shot
This is the shot that we saw in the World Cup against Pakistan when Wahab Riaz was breathing fire in the quarter-final match. Maxwell closed his eyes, backed away, wielded the willow and the ball traveled through point for four.
2. Reverse flick over third man
Was one of the most bizarre strokes you'll come across. Maxwell lines up to face a Yorker outside off stump, swivels and reverse flicks it over third man for a six.
3. Flat-batted reverse upper cut
Here, against Chennai Super Kings last year, Maxwell waits for a slower bouncer, quickly changes his stance and upper cuts it over third man for a six.
4. Move-away slash over point
Another one of his IPL specials. Maxi clears the way, creates room and slashes a short one over point boundary for a maximum.
5. Good ol' fashioned mow over mid-wicket
Wow, that is some hit. Against Umesh Yadav, who is hurling the ball in at over 140kmph, Maxwell powers this short-of-length ball over deep midwicket for a 102-metre six.
6. Down the track leave
This is the most hilarious of the lot. What was going on in his mind here? In a Big Bash tie, Maxwell decides to jump down the track and frantically leaves the ball only for it to crash into the stumps. Oh well, maybe next time.
